ThermaPAK Laptop Cooling HeatShift Pad 15 4 inch

ThermaPAK Laptop Cooling HeatShift Pad is the most effective solution against laptop computer heat. The HeatShift Pad performs better than USB cooling devices that typically use primitive fans. It uses ThermaPAK’s patented HeatShift Technology to dissipate heat away from your laptop computer. It is made of a safe, laboratory tested cooling crystals that has been proven to lower temperatures in computers more than six degrees Celsius. It requires no power, no refrigeration, and generates no noise. The superior design of the HeatShift Pad provides the most mobile and most effective solution to cooling laptop computers.
4 Stars Works well for short runs
I agree with the previous poster, Karen, that this is not a good cooling device to use more than 3-4 hours. The crystals will soften, and the cooling effect will degrade until the pad itself cools down over time.
One thing that I noticed, and it’s really a problem with the MacBook Pro that I use, is that the fan speed seems to be tied to the temperature of the enclosure base. I once put the Thermapak in the fridge to cool it down a little more than room temperature to see if I could get a few more hours out of it. What I noticed was that when the cooled pad is placed below the laptop, the fan speed will immediately start to decrease as the laptop senses the cooling effect of the pad. However, the CPU temp (as measured by the iSTAT widget) will actually INCREASE, presumably from the decreased cooling provided by the slower fan rate. I’m not sure why Apple set up the heat control mechanisms like this, but it doesn’t seem to be logical.
Otherwise, the Thermapak is great. It doesn’t drain any power, is light and portable, can’t really break down, and works well for light to moderate laptop use. For heavy longer term use, I would look elsewhere.
5 Stars Awesome Product!!!
I have to admit that I was skeptical that this product would work as well as a USB fan powered cooler that I have.
I’ve done my own tests and it really does keep it just as cool! I have a Dell XPS m1330, dual core 2.4GHz Intel, 6GB RAM and nVidia 8400m GS with 128MB running Vista Premium 64-bit. Needless to say (if you’ve read any of the reviews of this laptop) it gets pretty hot.
Using 2 different tests for CPU and GPU temp my USB 2-fan cooler product keeps my laptop 10 – 15 degrees cooler than the laptop by itself on a flat cubical surface.
I had the exact same results with ThermaPak which uses NO POWER.
It’s very well made and I highly recommend it.
4 Stars Good Product
Easily portable & no power usage make this product a worthy consideration.
When it is cold you can bend it and feel & hear the solid crystals crunching inside. As the pad heats up it becomes more pliable as the crystals start turning to liquid. It works, but as others have mentioned prolonged usage heats it to the point of diminishing returns. I’m considering purchasing a second pad for long work sessions. An example would be a 2 hr length movie … by the end of the movie the pad will be warm and a bit uncomfortable if it is sitting in your lap but, for the majority of that time it works well.
For all the other advantages this cooling pad offers (0 power & total silence), I feel comfortable recommending it.
5 Stars Awesome thing
I have a Toshiba Satellite P205D-S8812 (I say it like this so i do not have to give specs just browse it here at Amazon.com), and it has some heating issues (but not big of an issue to me, and not to mention every laptop has them), but for me the laptop does job extremly good on what ever I throw at it. No matter video rendering, gaming or any other processor consuming task, and this little thing helped me out so much. But let’s be real, even if you have a desktop PC it will generate heat unless you place water cooling on it, not to mention room temperature you are in. This thing does what it says to a certain point, it does stop to disipate heat after 2-3 hours of continuous usage, but hey we are talking about chemicals here. There is no such thing out there like this one, so that is why it makes it different from conventional cooling pads for laptops. Easy to use, no noise, feels comfy on your lap or even better no power consumption. And also if you want to cool down your laptop for additional 2C just take out the battery let it run on adaptor (that way you save your battery from depletion). My laptop is on 24-7 and i just restart it at the end of the day (but when I travel it’s not off more than 24 hours). Also I own 4 desktop PC’s and have done every thing on them to make them cool but hey if you have a comp running for more than 4 hours and having 4 monitors, that also generate heat and a regular room temperature it will have some effect on your computers generating heat. Unless you own a rack or turn your room into a server room that has it’s own dedicated A/C units to make certain temperature, but for normal use this thing offers much more that it looks like. Would definitely recommend it to everyone who is traveling as much as I do. It’s not bulky and can be used even as a pad just for protecting your laptop from underneath.
3 Stars Limited cooling time?
I haven’t bought this yet, just browsing for a cooling pad. I see several reviewers saying that after apx. 4 hours the pad is hot and stays hot, so it is not working. It seems to me that if the pad is staying hot then it is working. That is heat that has dissapated from the laptop and is now in the pad, better there than in the laptop. I would love to see a review with actual temperature differences between the laptop with no pad and the laptop after 4+ hours on the pad.
I was skeptical at first but after giving it a few test runs, i was totally convinced! It’s a really solid product with cool technology. I use it while im at my desk or even when im lounging on the couch. It works so several hours before you need to let the crystals re-solidify. I’m usually off my laptop by then anyways. If your looking for a cooler, this will not disappoint you.

Very interesting blog post thanks for sharing I just added your blog to my favorites and will check back.
This blog was extremely usefull to me, thank you for that. This blog provided me lots of good and usefull information. I also got a site about laptop-information, maybe you can drop by some day so we could share some information. Well, I hope to hear from you soon and ones again, thank you for this great site!
