The Pros and Cons of Netbooks

Because they are reasonably affordable, netbooks are a cheap alternative to full laptop computers.

Here are some of the pros:

• The small size of a netbook makes them easy to fit in a backpack.
• Netbooks are affordable, especially for parents who face a financial load in buying school supplies.

Here are some of the limitations of netbooks:

• They are designed primarily for Internet and email use.
• Word processing is possible with a netbook but Microsoft Office products are generally not installed.  Ask before buying (or consider an external CD player that you can use to load the program from a compact disk).
• You cannot play games, or play CDs or DVDs directly from the unit.  Check to see if your unit will support an external CD/DVD player.
